Serpentine Bowl

This is a 'bowl' I carved back in 2004 out of a small serpentine boulder that I found by a river. I tried to keep the outer shape as close to that of the original bouder as I could, I simply smoothed it off, hollowed it out and gave it a flat base so it wouldn't wobble. It is 11.5cm (4.5 inches) long, 9cm (3.5inches) wide and 5cm (2 inches) high, the 'bowl' part is 2.5cm (1 inch) deep at the deepest part. It weighs 599 grams (21.13oz)

I worked on this, on and off, for most of the year. There was a LOT of grinding involved, and it was very heavy to hold up to the grinding wheel (it was much heavier when I started ) So I could only work on it for a short time before my hands and wrists started aching, and since it was a 'personal' project I could only work on it at the end of the day, when my hands were already starting to get tired. However, I am glad that I finished it before the course finished.
